Vehicular Soccer
Over the next four weeks, I will be working on making a game inspired by Rocket League (Psyonix, 2015). It must be a game which has goals, cars, and balls, however it must be substantially different from Rocket League and unique in it's own way. To meet these requirements, I have done some brainstorming and thought of the outlines for how I plan for my game to be. These plans may change as development proceeds due to any constraints or additional requirements which may arise.
My game will be set in space and the player will control a starship. The player will be up against a single AI enemy with a starship of their own. Space will be in the background, however play will occur within a holographic (semi-transparent) arena. Everything bounces off the boundary. Gameplay will be similar to zero gravity soccer, however there will be some twists.
There will be a 'goal' on either end of the arena, and this will take the form of a black hole. The 'ball' will take the form of a planet and the ships must hit the planet to direct it towards the black hole which the enemy will be defending.
Once the planet approaches the black hole, terrified enemy spectators from on the planet will appear and be sucked into the black hole, at a rate depending on how close the planet is. Each spectator absorbed will award points to the attacking starship. If the planet is pushed entirely into the black hole, it will award a massive amount of points and the ball and each starship will reset to their original position, allowing for play to resume once more.
There will be a scoreboard to display the score of each player as the game progresses.
The game will be played from a third person perspective, so the player may easily judge if they are going to hit the ball or not. Directional control will probably be handled by the mouse, and be reset with another key.
If there is enough time left after completing everything already mentioned, I will consider allowing the player to select the colour of their ship, with the AI selecting another colour.
If there is a lot of time left, I will consider implementing local split-screen multiplayer.
