Social Media Presence

Today, a social media presence is critical for allowing your potential employers to find you and contact you. Social media, when used correctly, can be one of the most valuable assets you have when searching for a job or when trying to get yourself known. Social networks are easily accessible, and are a good way to get to know people within your industry.

Social Media is easily accessible.

To be found through social media, your first instinct might be to try to make yourself stand out, however this is what everybody is trying to do, so simply trying to stand out will not you stand out at all. To be noticed, you can join groups and join into discussions and know what you are talking about. You can become recognized if you can help others somehow. If you can answer questions, or help others in some way, they will appreciate and acknowledge that, and you will be noticed and stand out. To stand out, give other people advice and help in your field.

When you stand out, you are more likely to catch the attention of a potential employer. It is important that you keep your online profile professional so that they don't think badly of you, and it is important that you are standing out for the correct reasons. You certainly don't want to stand out as something like a troll. To keep your social media presence professional, ensure that you are not showing any immature behavior. If it isn't something you would want your grandparents to see, you probably wouldn't want potential employers to see it either. Since your employer might want to know more about you, it is important to ensure that they can learn more about you and contact you through an online portfolio.

Although you might never show any immature behavior through your professional social media profile, it is easy for potential employers to investigate your behavior through your other social media profiles. Often, they will look to see how you normally act. You need to be careful that you don't publish anything that would make you unappealing to an employer through any of your social media profiles.
